No spend weekend

March 27th, 2013 at 06:38 pm

No spend weekend but it stopped there. Monday I went thrift store shopping with DD1 and I bought a new purse and a glass blown vase for $7.56. Yesterday had to stop and get milk and parmesan cheese to the tune of $7.00 and gave DD2 $20 to put on her lunch account.

Did not get half the things done I wanted to on my days off. Spent about 20 minutes in DD2's room, 20 in my bedroom,20 in the LR and only 2 loads of laundry. Boo.

Went to birthday party Sunday then watched 3 of my grandsons while DD1 went to the store. That's always fun for me and DD2! They are so cute! The baby fell asleep in my arms and what better feeling is there than that? It's priceless. ;-)

I'm curious how does everyone keeps track of thier no spend days? Journal? Bank Statement? Do you count days when bills are deducted? Have a great day!

I don't really track them, just mention it when one occurs. I consider it a no-spend day if I haven't made a conscious financial transaction. If money is withdrawn from the bank for an automated payment, that doesn't count.

CB,thanks for your input!I was making a mental note after checking my online banking but didn't feel it was accurate. I think you have the right idea. ;-)

Our No Spend Day includes DH & myself, no financial transaction of any kind. I note it in my calendar via a colored dot. It works remarkably well to keep us mindful of impulse spending. DH carries it a bit far reminding me to top of gas on discount day Thursday at the gas station, on my way home from grocery store where they give a coupon

Snafu, it really does help curb impulse spending. It is so much better to feel your in control of your money instead of the other way around.

North Texas, when you go thrift shopping do you have a list of items needed to fill 'needs' in wardrobe or household goods or is it purely impulse choices. See it - like it - buy it mind set? Is the best feature price or?

Snafu, I needed(wanted?) a small purse to throw my wallet, sunglasses and phone in for short trips, picking up the kids etc. So when I saw it was Nine West and new with tags and a great price I jumped on it. Could I have done without it? Yes. I usually do go thrift shopping with things needed in mind but I think the vase was more of an impulse buy. I went looking for some jeans for DD2 and I struck out! I do want to do some purging at my house so lately I have been extra mindful of what I bring home. The most effective way I found to not spend and stop impulse buys is to stay home and out of the stores.LOL
